Our services are provided under the trading name Brighton Plumbing Co. The legal entity you contract with is named in your quote and invoice.
Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Services must be provided with due care and skill, be fit for the purpose you told us about, and be delivered within a reasonable time. Goods we supply, such as a hot water unit or tapware, must be of acceptable quality and fit for purpose.
For a major failure with a service you are entitled to cancel the service and obtain a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to be compensated for other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. If the failure is not major, you are entitled to have problems with the service fixed within a reasonable time.
These rights apply automatically. They sit above and alongside anything else in this policy.
Statutory warranties on plumbing work
Plumbing work in Victoria is regulated by the Victorian Building Authority (VBA). Licensed plumbers must issue a compliance certificate for certain work, including where the value of the work is above the threshold set under the plumbing regulations. A compliance certificate confirms the work complies with the relevant standards and is backed by the insurance arrangements that apply to certified plumbing work in Victoria.
Where your job requires a compliance certificate, we lodge it and give you your copy.
Our workmanship warranty
On top of your statutory rights, we stand behind our workmanship. If something we installed or repaired fails because of our workmanship, we return and put it right at no charge. The duration of our workmanship warranty for your job is as stated on your invoice.
Our workmanship warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse, work carried out by others after us, fair wear and tear, or pre-existing faults in parts of the system we did not work on. Where we identify a pre-existing issue during a job, we point it out and quote separately if you want it fixed.
Manufacturer warranties
Products we supply, such as hot water units, tapware and toilets, carry their own manufacturer warranties. We pass these through to you in full and give you the documentation you need to claim. If a supplied product fails within its warranty period, contact us and we will help you with the claim.
Making a warranty claim
Contact us using the details on our Contact page with your invoice number and a description of the problem. Photos help. We will arrange to inspect the issue and tell you plainly whether it is covered and what happens next.
Nothing in this policy limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
